Unemployed Facing Bias

The unemployment rate in this country is still at a very high 9%. For those who have been unemployed for 6 months or more, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

What is keeping many people from finding work is a bias employers seem to have towards those who have lost their job through no fault of their own.

I think the world has gone mad.

You lose your job because the company you work for either downsizes, eliminates your position or just goes out of business and now YOU are punished?

It really does not make any sense and the lack of compassion employers have for the unemployed is disgraceful.

I wonder how they would feel if they had to walk in the shoes of someone who just wants to work but is not given the opportunity.

Anyway, the solution for those long-term unemployed is to re-invent themselves. One way to do this is consider a temporary position. Go to a temp agency. Yes, you are probably going to have to settle for a lower-paying job but if your unemployment benefits have run out you will be happy to have a paycheck no matter how small.

The beauty of a temp job is that if you absolutely despise the work, there is an end date in sight.

The biggest challenge for the unemployed is to avoid falling into the darkness of depression. If you can keep your hope alive, you will have a greater chance of bringing some money back into your household.

Don't give up even though the news is bleak.
